The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team begins defense of their Region IX championship from last year when they open the Region IX tournament on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs.
WNCC, who earned the sixth seed, will travel to face third-seeded Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, at 10 a.m. The Cougars enter with a 3-6-5 record while going 3-4-2 in conference action. Northwest is 9-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference.
First-year men’s coach Eseah Ingram said this is the second season and records mean very little as he likes his team’s chances entering the tourney.
“We gotta take risks and execute,” Ingram said. “If we play with some heart and a bit of arrogance, we can get a result. I believe in my boys.”

The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team wrapped up the regular season Saturday in suffering a 3-0 weather-shortened contest to Northwest College at Landers Soccer Complex.
The Cougars finish the regular season at 3-6-5 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play.
WNCC will now wait until after next weekend to see if they make the playoffs. Currently, the Cougars are sitting in sixth place and the top six teams make the post-season. There is a chance the Cougars could move up to fifth if the right teams win next weekend.
The Region IX playoffs begin October 18 with the third through sixth seeds facing each other with the top two seeds getting a bye.
WNCC head coach Eseah Ingram said it wasn’t the team’s best performance on the pitch Saturday.

WNCC men earn a tie with LCCC on Saturday

The old saying of “a tie is like kissing your sister” came true and that is exactly what happened Saturday at Landers Soccer Complex when the Western Nebraska Community College and Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team hooked up for a Region IX contest.
WNCC was in firm control of the game until a late goal off a penalty kick gave the Golden Eagles a goal to tie the game and that is where it stood after 90 minutes of play at 2-2.
With the tie, WNCC falls to fourth in the conference standings with 11 points while Laramie County is third with 13 points. The conference is led by Otero with 18 points and Casper with 15 points. WNCC is 3-2-2 in conference and 3-3-5 overall. Teams get three points for a conference win and one point for a tie.
WNCC will wrap up the regular season this week with three home matches. WNCC will host No. 9 Barton Community College on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. and then host Central Wyoming College Friday at 1:30 p.m. and the Northwest College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team played solid defense to get the shutout 2-0 win over Trinidad State College in a South conference contest Saturday at Landers Soccer Complex.
WNCC head coach Eseah Ingram said his team got the win, but it wasn’t their best game overall.
“We just tried to play principal futbol,” Ingram said. “When they play five in the back five, the biggest thing is being patient on the ball, switching the side of play, and just try to break them down. I don’t think we did a good job executing today. We could have given a much better performance, but at the end of the day we will take the wins when we get them.”

The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team started their home campaign with a defensive contest and had a strong first half when Otero College came to Landers Soccer Complex Friday.
WNCC held a 1-0 halftime lead but their strong first-half defense couldn’t hold on as the Rattlers scored twice in the second half to claim a 2-1 conference win.
WNCC will look to get back on track Saturday when they host Trinidad State College in another conference game beginning at 4 p.m. at Landers. Admission to all Cougar soccer matches are free.
Friday’s contest was one where goals were hard to come by as well as shots as both defenses were playing well.

The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team received some good news on Monday after the NJCAA released its pre-season poll on Monday.
The Cougar men, who competed at the national tournament last fall, earned the 18th seed for the upcoming season.
Eseah Ingram, WNCC head coach, said while the ranking is nice, it is more for the players, program, and the community.

WNCC men’s soccer looked solid in first inter-squad scrimmage

Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer coach Eseah Ingram loved what he saw for the first competition of the season during the Navy/Gold scrimmage on Saturday.
The scrimmage itself saw two evenly-matched teams as the Gold took a 3-0 lead before the Navy scored the final three games of the match to tie things at 3-3.
“Scrimmage was solid, saw a lot of good things but also saw some things I believe we need to improve on,” Ingram said. “We’re connecting early right now and today, in moments, it showed. We must continue to keep working and strive to get better every single day.”

WNCC men’s soccer team opens practice with the goal of another regional title

The Western Nebraska Community College men’s soccer team won the Region IX title a year ago and this year first-year head coach Eseah Ingram is hoping for nothing less as the Cougar men opened pre-season practice this weekend.
“Goals for the year are simple, win the Region IX & District and compete for a National Championship. Anything less is a failure,” Ingram said. “As much pressure as that may bring, it’s the reality of our program and our standard. We, as a program, are working hard to establish culture. Last year was great but it’s in the past. This year we strive to do it all again, but even better.”
The Cougars welcomed 26 players in this weekend as they started two-a-days on Saturday. The team will have a Navy and Gold scrimmage on Saturday and a scrimmage at Garden City Community College on August 13.

There are just two weeks before the all-new Western Nebraska Community College Elite Cougar Soccer Camp that will be held July 14-16 at Landers Soccer Complex.
The WNCC Elite Soccer Camp will be a chance to learn soccer skills from WNCC men’s coach Eseah Ingram and women’s coach Todd Rasnic, who the duo led the Cougar men to a regional title last fall and a first-ever berth in the national championships.
This year’s camp is totally different from years past and it will be intense, but fun in teaching the fundamentals and skills to become a championship soccer player. Sessions will only be two hours in length for each session for middle and high school-aged individuals and will be a fun-way to learn the skills of soccer to make you a championship player.

“I am excited because it is close to home,” Babiker said. “It is a big campus, but a good community, so it is a big step,” Babiker said. “It’s been my goal (to play at Division I) because in order to go to the next step, you have to go through the program in the U.S., from JUCO to Division I to professional. I think this is a step in my career.”
