Criteria for Hall of Fame Induction
Criteria for induction to the Western Nebraska Community College Hall of Fame shall be based upon a candidate's athletic and/or academic excellence or honorable and distinctive contributions to Western Nebraska Community College.
A. STUDENT-ATHLETE
A student-athlete is eligible for nomination after fulfilling the following requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years following the two-year college athletic participation
- Achieve such accomplishments as an All-Conference, All-Region, or All-American selection in the sport(s) for3 which they are nominated in
- Exhibited acceptable standards of conduct during competitions, as a student on campus, and as a citizen in the community
- Minimum GPA of 2.0 while a student at WNCC
- Graduation from WCCC is preferred although not required. However, the athlete must have ended his/her community college athletic career at WNCC
- Special consideration may be given by the committee in instances of a degree obtained at another institution.
- A waiver may be given to those individuals who do not meet the above criteria. Two thirds of the vote by the committee will be needed to obtain said waiver.
B. TEAMS
A team may be nominated for induction based on extraordinary accomplishments such as:
- NJCAA Championship
- NJCAA Region IX Championship
- Distinguished in a significant way either through school, regional, or national championship
C. COACH OR ADMINISTRATOR
A coach or administrator is eligible based on:
- Serving a minimum of five years and is no longer employed at WNCC
- Outstanding performance and contribution to the Athletics program and the athletes they coached/served as evidenced by such accomplishments as coach of the year, wins, championships, etc., while supporting the educational programs of the College and contributing to future success of the Institution and/or the athletes who compete under his/her leadership
D. SPORT CONTRIBUTOR
A sports contributor is eligible based on:
- Outstanding/special contribution to the support, growth, popularity, and/or community/campus acceptance of the Intercollegiate Athletics program
NOMINATION INFORMATION
- Nominations for Hall of Fame membership will be accepted every five (5) years and a maximum of three nominees per group will be considered.
- When nominations exceed the allowable inductees, nominees with the earliest dates of participation or service shall be given first preference.
- Any nominees that are not selected will automatically be considered for the next induction, after which they must be re-nominated if not selected.
- Nominations deadline will be September 15th of a Hall of Fame year, 2021, 2026, 2031, 2036.
- There are no restrictions on who may submit a nomination, but an individual must be nominated by someone other than himself or herself, and all nominations must be signed.
- Nominations must contain a rationale for consideration.
- The Western Nebraska Community College Athletic staff will gather and verify information on each qualified nominee and present it to the committee for review.
SELECTION COMMITTEE:
The 9-member committee consists of the following:
- The president or his/her designee (member) of the WNCC Foundation
- The president or his/her administrative designee of the College
- The Athletic Director and the Assistant Athletic Director
- Two current head coaches at the college (one coach of a men’s team/one coach of a women’s team)
- The College’s sports information specialist (SID)
- A senior representative from the faculty at large
- One Scotts Bluff County community member at large

This Hall of Fame helps strengthen WNCC’s strategic plan in the following areas:
- Student Recruitment, Retention, & Completion goals are met by celebrating the success past students have had after completing their academics at WNCC.
- Diversity is strengthened as WNCC’s Athletic Department has a rich history of exhibiting positive support to diverse cultures, backgrounds, and ideas.
- This celebration and recognition will increase involvement and academic growth of perspective and current students.
- Community & Employer Responsiveness is reinforced as WNCC meaningfully engages with members of the Nebraska panhandle community by showing pride in being the community’s college. This social event provides meaningful cultural recreation to our community.

WNCC Foundation’s mission is to support the mission of WNCC.
- WNCC Foundation’s support of and partnership with the Athletic Hall of Fame program helps increase the visibility and awareness of the impact WNCC has on its students. As well as:
- Creates an exciting event to engage and recognize WNCC alumni that are making a positive impact in their field.
- Provides greater opportunity for alumni of all backgrounds ro re-engage with WNCC’s Alumni Association
- Becomes part of the ongoing alumni engagement plan to increase involvement with current student activities.
