PHOENIX – The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team wrapped up their Spring Break in falling to Madison College 11-1 on Friday to finish the week-long trip at 3-4.

The loss snapped a 3-game winning streak for the Cougars. WNCC will next be in action this weekend when they open up Empire Conference play when they host Luna Community College on Friday and Saturday.

Friday's contest was one where the Cougars couldn't find the rhythm offensively as they finished with just five hits in the contest and now extra base hits with five different players recording a single in the game.

Both teams failed to score in the opening inning. It was the second and fourth inning that Madison plated three runs each to take a 6-0 lead. The second frame Madison scored their three runs on four hits, including a double and triple. The fourth inning Madison scored the three runs on just one hit.

WNCC finally got on the scoreboard with a run in the fifth when Austin Cooper reached on an error and scored on a 2-out single by Vaughn Wilson.

Madison put the game away with five in the sixth for an 11-1 lead.

WNCC couldn't get a good read on the Madison pitchers as the two combined for 14 strikeouts on the day and walked just two. WNCC's three pitchers had six walks while striking out just three.
